THE CONDITIONS AND THE AMOUNT OF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED OUTSIDE THE CENTRE

A foreigner may receive social assistance in the form of financial benefits to cover on their own the costs of their stay in the territory of Poland. If you would like to live outside the centre, you must apply for this in the centre where you stay and submit the application to the centre staff. The decision in that matter is made by the administration of the Department for Social Assistance. Assistance in this form may also be granted for organisational reasons, e.g. when no vacancies are available in the centre or the centre is being renovated but also when:

  • the foreigner's security should be ensured and this, for different reasons, is not possible in the centre,
  • public law and order is threatened,
  • there is a need to protect and maintain family ties,
  • the foreigner received a decision on granting the refugee status or a refusal to grant refugee status and under the decision subsidiary protection has been granted or a permit for tolerated stay.

The amount of assistance is defined in the Ordinance of the Minister of the Interior and Administration of 26 May 2009 on the amount of assistance for foreigners seeking refugee status (Dz. U. of 2009 No. 80 item 674). According to the above ordinance, assistance rates as part of ‘financial benefits' are as follows:

  • PLN 25.00 per person a day,
  • if the foreigner is staying in the territory of the Republic of Poland with a spouse or minor children, the financial benefit for each family member a day is:
    • PLN 20.00 - for two-member families,
    • PLN 15.00 - for three-member families,
    • PLN 12.50 - for four-member (and more) families.

The benefit is paid once a month, by the 15th day of each month, in a centre located nearest to the foreigner's place of residence or by postal according to the indicated address.

A foreigner residing outside the centre also receives medical assistance and assistance when he or she wants to return voluntarily.
