Foreigners seeking refugee status enjoy a number of rights, including:
- protection against expulsion until the final decision in the refugee application (normally this does not concern foreigners who submitted a refugee status application again),
- confidentiality and protection of personal data,
- obtaining a document - a temporary identity certificate for the duration of the refugee status procedure (for more information on the document, click the link next to: the temporary identity certificate,
- a possibility of using social assistance and medical care, as well as assistance in voluntary leaving of the territory of the Republic of Poland,
- access to the case's file at each stage of the refugee application procedure,
- easy contact with a representative of the UNHCR and organisations whose statutory tasks include issues concerning refugees,
- a possibility of expressing consent to giving the UNHCR representative information on the progress of the procedure and access to the case file and taking notes from them and preparing extracts,
- possibility of starting a job if the first instance refugee status procedure lasts longer than 6 months (based on a certificate issued by the Head of the Office for Foreigners and the Temporary Certificate of Foreigner's Identity),
- possibility of expressing their opinion before a decision is issued as to the evidence and materials gathered, as well as the requests reported,
- receiving information in writing (in a language which is comprehensible to them) on the outcome of the procedure and possible measures of appeal,
- where refugee status or subsidiary assistance are granted, receiving written information on the rights and responsibilities related to this.
