INTERVIEW

Interviewing the applicant is an important moment in the refugee procedure. The aim of the interview is to clarify the facts of relevance to dealing with the case. After the interview the foreigner receives a copy of the interview report.

The applicant will not be interviewed if:

  • it is possible to issue a decision on granting refugee status based on the evidence gathered,
  • they are not able to participate in the interview or they cannot participate in it due to their health condition or for psychological reasons,
  • the applicant gave other reasons for the application than their fear of persecution on the grounds of race, religion, nationality, political views or social background or a risk of serious harm or they did not provide any information on the circumstances surrounding their fear of persecution or risk of serious harm (application is of course groundless) unless the applicant is an unaccompanied minor.

The interview takes places without the person on behalf of which the applicant is acting unless their presence is necessary to clarify the case.  Foreigners are provided with free assistance of a translator speaking the language understood by the individual concerned.
